Orr Chiropractic Finding Misalignments Using Surface EMG

Surface EMG Device Assesses Tension in Muscles

The Surface EMG (Electromyography) is a device which measures the amount of electrical activity your muscles release when they are contracting, or under tension. It is similar in function to an EKG, which measures heart muscle activity. This device gathers the data about your body’s electrical activity and then our team at Orr Chiropractic Center of Central Ohio will study the results to gain more insight into the muscle and nerve structures within your body.

How Does Tension in My Muscles Relate to Chiropractic?

Under normal conditions, our spinal muscles should be balanced and free from tension. However, when someone is suffering from spinal misalignments, muscles become unbalanced and tense. This can contribute to early joint degeneration and disturb our overall wellbeing. Chiropractic treatments are guided by the body’s natural signals for help to find the source of your problems. Instead of treating pain with harsh chemicals, chiropractic strengthens your body so that it is able to naturally fight off any problems it is experiencing.

At Orr Chiropractic we want to utilize the Surface EMG tool to find those areas of your muscles that are experiencing the most tension. By determining an area that is showing more distress, we are able to target your treatment more specifically to address the underlying spinal misalignment. Our goal is to use the information we gain from this test to improve the quality of your care at each visit to our Pataskala Orr Chiropractic office.

Is The Surface EMG Safe?

The surface EMG is safe for use on infants, children, expectant moms, and even patients with pacemakers. In addition, the Surface EMG is non-invasive and painless, using electrodes placed on the outside of the body to record measurements. This tool is used to monitor signals coming from within your body, therefore there are no long lasting side effects from using this tool.

Surface EMG As a Chiropractic Tool

Serving as a great tool for your doctor to monitor the progression of your body’s recovery from misalignment, the Surface EMG can also help find other trouble areas that need correcting at each visit. Similar to the Thermography exam that uses a scan of your spine to determine temperature differences from one side of your spine to the other, the Surface EMG is able to evaluate areas of your body that could benefit from concentrated chiropractic care.

By utilizing this tool as well as gathering data from other tests and methods, such as the Symptoms Survey and Full Spine X-Rays, Dr. Julia is able to create a more personalized plans for your future Chiropractic care. Long term, the use of these chiropractic tools will help track your improvement and give valuable advice that could remove the need for future medical treatment.
